Checker.THE CROWN & CAPTURE CLUB

THE LITTLE BOOK OF CHECKERS

Every crown
starts with a move.

Six essentials for your first match.
Learn the board, then let your instincts take over.

01

Make your move.

Red goes first. Move a regular piece one square diagonally forward into an empty dark square. Each side starts with 12 pieces.

02

See a jump? Take it.

Jump forward diagonally over an adjacent opponent into the empty square behind it. Capturing is mandatory when any capture is available.

03

Keep the run going.

If that piece can capture again, it must continue. Use the same piece until no further jump is possible.

04

Earn your crown.

Reach the far edge to become a King. Kings move one diagonal square, and can capture forwards or backwards. Crowning ends a capture run.

05

Take the table.

Win by capturing every opposing piece, or leaving your opponent with no legal move when their turn begins.

06

A worthy stalemate.

The match is a draw after 40 moves by each side without a capture or a regular piece moving. Captures and regular-piece moves reset that count.
